BACHELOR OF THEOLOGY

The BTh Program is a four-year ecclesiastical program affiliated to the Faculty of Theology of the UPS and is duly recognized by the Sacred Congregation for Catholic Education. Although it is primarily for candidates to the priesthood, non-seminarians may be accepted with prior approval of the Dean of Studies.

Academic Prerequisites

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy (PhB)
  • A Bachelor of Arts degree, major in Philosophy (AB Philosophy)
  • Any Bachelor’s degree with the completion of the following philosphical subjects:
    • Logic
    • Philosophy of Being (Metaphysic / Ontology)
    • Philosophy of Nature (Cosmology)
    • Philosophy of Man(Philosphical Anthropology / Rational Psychology)
    • Philosophy of god (Theodicy)
    • Philosophy of Knowledge (Critics / Epistemology)
    • General Moral Philosophy (General Ethics)
    • Special Moral Philosophy (Special Ethics)
    • Ancient History of Philosophy
    • Medieval History of Philosophy
    • Modern History of Philosophy
    • Contemporary History of Philosophy
    • Philosophical Synthesis (de Universa)

Admission Requirements

  • Proficiency in the English language.
  • Application Form
  • Placement / Entrance Examination and Interview.
  • Official Transcript of Records (original or certified copy) of Collegiate Studies and Philosophical Studies (REMARKED: COPY FOR DBCS/FOR EVALUATION)
  • Transfer Credential Certificate/Honorable Dismissal from school last attended
  • Letter of Recommendation from Local Superior or Formator-in-Charge
  • Four (4) copies of 2×2 picture with white background
  • Entrance fee of Php 1,000.00

Additional requirements for International applicants

  • Photocopy of passport information (showing photo, data, latest admissions and validity of stay).
  • Photocopy of ACR (Alien Certificate of Registration) & CRTS (Certificate of Residence for Temporary Student).
  • Photocopy of Visa (Student or Missionary).

Additional requirements for Transferees

  • Copy of Course Description from school last attended.

Graduation Requirements

  • Completion of 140 credits (70% of the final grade).
  • Passing of the Comprehensive Examination (30% of the final grade).
    • For those taking the BTh Oral Comprehensive Examination track, the student must have:
      • completed and obtained passing grades in all subjects of the first three curriculum years with a general weighted average between 1.00 – 2.24, before taking the Seminar in Theological Synthesis.
      • completed and passed the Seminar in Theological Synthesis.
      • Submitted their written theological sythesis and orally presented it to the ITF Director and another professor (comprises 40% of the Comprehensive Examinations)
      • passed the 30-minuted Oral Comprehensive Examination. (Comprises 60% of the Comprehesive Examination)
      • General weighted average not lower than 2.24
  • Seminar / Theological Synthesis. For completion of theological studies, all students in the BTh program must take the Seminar on Theological Synthesis, write their personal Theological Synthesis, and present it orally to a panel made up of the ITF Director, the professor facilitating the seminar and their respective formator as observer.
  • Salesian Studies. Being in the Salesian study center, all non-Salesian students in the BTh program are required to take two (2) units of Salesian studies, while the Salesian students are required eight (8) units.
